The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Weekly rainfall surpluses exceeded 100mm over southern Nigeria, and local
areas in western CAR.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over parts of southern Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra
Leone, western Liberia, northern Cote d’Ivoire, parts of southwestern Mali,
southern Nigeria, and portions of Cameroon. In contrast, there is an
increased chance for below-average rainfall across southeastern South Sudan
and Uganda.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, the rainfall pattern was overall above normal between
10 N and 30 N. The above normal areas outweigh the below normal areas
except over the Indonesian islands and coastal northeastern China.
However, the rainfall amounts over southeastern Australia and Papua New
Guinea, and of course over Indonesia were below normal. For the past 30
days the rainfall amounts were mixed across the region, and were below
along the foothills of the Himalayas, South Korea, east central China,
Indonesia and over southeastern Australia.

In this past week, rainfall over eastern India was mostly near to below
normal. Eastern China and Indonesia also experienced much below normal
rainfall conditions. As of today since the first of June, the India Met.
Dept. reported that the overall All India Monsson Rainfall index was
slightly above normal (+4%). The Indian summer monsoon (ISM) season
officially ends at about the end of the two week forecast period form
today. It is expected that the ISM rainfall season will end with near
normal rainfall amounts. For the next two weeks, the NCEP GFS model
forecasts near to slightly above normal rainfall over India and Burma, but
below normal rainfall elsewhere over southeast Asia and particularly over
eastern China.

*South American Monsoons:*

The weekly updates for the 2019/2020 season will start on 23 September,
2019.
