The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Weekly rainfall totals exceeded 100mm over local areas in Guinea, southern
Mali, parts of Nigeria, southwestern Cameroon, and local areas in Ethiopia.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over southern Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone,
Liberia, western Cote d’Ivoire, southwestern Mali, southern Nigeria,
portions of Cameroon, eastern CAR, northern DRC, and western South Sudan.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, the rainfall pattern was overall above normal between
10 N and 30 N. The above normal areas outweigh the below normal areas
except over the Indonesian islands and coastal northeastern China.
However, the rainfall amounts over southeastern Australia and Papua New
Guinea was below normal. For the past 30 days the rainfall amounts were
mixed across the region, and were below along the foothills of the
Himalayas, southeastern and east central China, Indonesia and over
southeastern Australia.

In this past week, rainfall over India was mostly near to below normal
across north east central India, eastern China and Indonesia. Pockets of
above normal rainfall are noted over the Indian Western Ghats, North Korea,
and over Laos and Vietnam. As of today since the first of June, the India
Met. Dept. reported that the overall All India Monsson Rainfall index was
slightly above normal (+3%). For the next two weeks, the NCEP GFS model
forecasts below normal rainfall over Indonesia and large parts of eastern
China, and a mixed pattern elsewhere.

*South American Monsoons:*

The weekly updates for the 2019/2020 season will start on 23 September,
2019.
