The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Parts of southern Tanzania, northern Malawi, northern Mozambique and
southern Madagascar experienced moisture surpluses of over 100 mm (more
than 200% of normal rainfall).

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over parts of northern DRC, portions of Ethiopia, southern Tanzania,
northern Malawi and parts of northern Mozambique. In contrast, there is an
increased chance for below-average rainfall over southeastern Angola,
southwestern Zambia, Botswana and parts of western Zimbabwe.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits dominated deep
southern coastal peninsular India, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, large parts of
New Guinea island of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, and almost all of
Australia, particularly north western regions. Elsewhere, the rainfall
amounts received were at normal to slightly above normal levels,
particularly in southeastern China, Kashmir India, parts of the Middle
East, and Indonesia. Large below normal deficits dominated almost all of
Australia, especially northwestern Australia with severe deficits. For the
past 30 days, seasonal rainfall fell over Kashmir, Nepal, Bangladesh, and
across the Middle East in general. Large rainfall fell over southeast
China. Large parts of Australia continue to be abnormally dry, especially
in the north.

In this past week, large parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea
received below normal rainfall. Elsewhere, seasonal normal rainfall fell
across the region. In the upcoming two weeks, the NCEP GFS model forecasts
below normal over southeastern China, and above normal rainfall over parts
of eastern Australia, and near normal rainfall elsewhere.

*South American Monsoons:*
