The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Weekly rainfall totals associated with tropical cyclone Idai exceeded 200mm
over parts of northern Mozambique, southern Malawi, and northern Madagascar.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for below-average rainfall
over southeastern Angola, eastern Namibia, Botswana, western Zimbabwe and
southwestern Zambia. In contrast, there is an increased chance for
above-average rainfall over southern DRC, eastern Zambia, southern
Tanzania, northern Malawi, parts of northern Mozambique, central
Mozambique, and western and southern Madagascar.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

Will be available later today.

*South American Monsoons:*

Long-term rainfall deficits are present over the Amazon Basin and the
Brazilian Plateau.

During the last 7 days, below-average precipitation was observed over
portions of northern and central Brazil, northern Uruguay, Bolivia, eastern
Peru and western Colombia. Above-average precipitation was observed over
much of the extreme southern Brazil and northern Argentina.

For Days 1-7 (11 - 17 Mar 2019), below-average precipitation is predicted
for much of central Brazil, southern Bolivia, northern Argentina, southern
Chile and central Peru. Above-average precipitation is predicted for much
of Paraguay, as well as portions of northern and southern Brazil,
southeastern Argentina and central Ecuador.
