The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Weekly rainfall surpluses exceeded 100mm over local areas in the highlands
of eastern Ethiopia and northern Somalia.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over parts of Ghana, Togo, Benin, southwestern Nigeria, South Sudan,
southwestern Ethiopia, eastern Uganda and western Kenya. In contrast, there
is an increased chance for below-average rainfall over Equatorial Guinea,
Gabon, Congo, and western and central DRC.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits dominated large parts
of central and southern peninsular India, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia,
southern Philippines, and Papua New Guinea, and almost all of Australia,
particularly coastal north western regions. Elsewhere, the rainfall amounts
received were mixed. For the past 30 days the rainfall amounts received
were quite mixed, and particularly deficient over India, and southern China
bordering Burma and north eastward.

In this past week, over almost the whole region, the rainfall amounts
received were quite mixed. The official date of summer southwest monsoon
rainfall onset over southwest India, along Kerala coast is June 8, about 2
days delayed from the earlier onset date for the same by the India Met.
Dept.(IMD). For the next two weeks, the NCEP GFS model forecasts below
normal rainfall for India, which is already experiencing dry conditions.
Below normal rainfall is also forecast for parts of eastern coastal China.

*North American Monsoons:*

Above-average rainfall has been observed over portions of southern and
central Mexico during the past week.

Rainfall accumulations over the past 30 days were near-average for much of
the core NAM region.

NCEP/GFS Forecasts call for below-average precipitation for portions of
southern Mexico during 10-16 June 2019.
