The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Rainfall was below-average over many places in the Gulf of Guinea and
Central Africa countries.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over many places in the Sahel region.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, the rainfall pattern was overall mixed over the while
region with above and below normal regions scattered throughout. But the
above normal areas outweigh the below normal areas. However, the rainfall
amounts over Australia was below normal, even though this is not the
rainfall season there. For the past 30 days the rainfall amounts were
generally in excess across the whole region except over southeastern China
and Indonesia and over southeastern Australia.

In this past week, rainfall over India was mostly near to above normal
except over central western region, as well as over the large swath of
central and southeastern China. As of today since the first of June, the
India Met. Dept. reported that the overall All India Monsson Rainfall
amounts were slightly above long term mean (+2%). For the next two weeks,
the NCEP GFS model forecasts below normal rainfall for parts of northern
and eastern India, as well as over south central and southeastern China
during the first week. Elsewhere the rainfall is at near neutral to above
normal levels.

*North American Monsoons:*

Below-average rainfall has been observed over southwestern US and
northwestern Mexico during the past 7 days.

Rainfall accumulations over the past 30 days were below-average for much of
eastern Mexico and southwestern US.

NCEP/GFS Forecasts call for near-average precipitation for Arizona and
above-average rainfall for much of Mexico during the next two weeks.
