The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC
Global Monsoons website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Weekly rainfall surpluses exceeded 100m over portions of Guinea, Sierra
Leone, northwestern Cote d’Ivoire, southeastern Nigeria and western
Cameroon.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for below-average rainfall
over the far western West Africa, and southern Nigeria, parts of Cameroon
and western CAR. In contrast, there is an increased chance for
above-average rainfall over many places in the Sahel region.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits dominated large parts
of southern peninsular and central eastern India, but above normal
anomalies prevailed over northeastern India as well as slopes of the
Western Ghats. Above normal rainfall anomalies also covered over
southeastern China many South China Sea countries except Thailand. However,
rainfall over Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippine islands was
mixed. For the past 30 days the rainfall amounts received were below normal
over south eastern peninsular India and central eastern India, but above
normal along the Gangetic plains and the northeast and over Burma. Many
parts of Indonesia, Thailand, northeastern China and Korea experienced
below normal rainfall.

In this past week, while central India and the Western Ghats region
received much above normal rainfall, northeastern India got less. Also both
Koreas and Japan received below normal rainfall. Elsewhere the pattern was
mixed. As of today since the first of June, the India Met. Dept. reported
that the overall All India Monsson Rainfall amounts were exactly equal to
the long term mean, with 0% departure. For the next two weeks, the NCEP GFS
model forecasts below normal rainfall for southeastern India and over large
parts of southeastern China and across much of Indonesian archipelago.
