The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Above-average rainfall was observed over many places in West and Central
Africa, and portions of the Greater Horn of Africa.

Weekly rainfall totals exceeded 150mm over local areas in Senegal, Guinea,
Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Cameroon and Ethiopia.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over southern Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, northern Cote
d’Ivoire, northern Ghana, northern Togo, northern Benin, Nigeria, eastern
Chad, western Sudan, northeastern DRC and northern Uganda. In contrast,
there is an increased chance for below-average rainfall over parts of
central and eastern Sudan.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, the rainfall pattern was overall mixed over the while
region with above and below normal regions scattered throughout. But the
above normal areas outweigh the below normal areas except over the
Indonesian islands and coastal northeastern China. However, the rainfall
amounts over southeastern Australia was below normal. For the past 30 days
the rainfall amounts were generally in excess across the region except over
the foothills of the Himalayas, southeastern China, Indonesia and over
southeastern Australia.

In this past week, rainfall over India was mostly near to below normal
across the region especially below normal over eastern China, west central
India and the Indonesian islands. As of today since the first of June, the
India Met. Dept. reported that the overall All India Monsoon Rainfall
amounts were just about at the long term mean (+1%) levels. For the next
two weeks, the NCEP GFS model forecasts above normal rainfall over central
and western India, and over the South China countries, but below normal
rainfall over southern interior China and Indonesia.

*North American Monsoons:*

Above-average rainfall has been observed over northwestern Mexico during
the past 7 days, while Arizona experienced slightly drier-than-average
conditions.

Rainfall accumulations over the past 30 days were below-average for much of
eastern Mexico and southwestern US.

NCEP/GFS Forecasts call for near-average precipitation for southwestern US
and slightly below-average rainfall for northwestern Mexico during the next
two weeks.
