The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Over the past week, moderate rains sustained moisture surpluses over the
southern areas of Sudan and Chad. Southwestern Cote d'Ivoire received over
100 mm of rainfall over a two-day period this past week, bringing the last
30 day cumulative rainfall total to above 180% of normal rainfall.

Forecasts indicate that moisture surpluses will be sustained over
southwestern Sudan and southern Chad over the next two weeks.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits remain over
southeastern China, over almost all of Australia, New Guinea, parts of
Malaysia, as well as over Afghanistan. Elsewhere, in general, the rainfall
amounts received were at normal to slightly above normal levels. For the
past 30 days, rainfall deficits are noted across central India, interior
eastern China, Japan, South Korea, Papua New Guinea. Elsewhere rainfall
received was at slightly elevated levels.

In this past week, rainfall amounts were generally deficient everywhere
across the entire region except over parts of northeastern India,
Bangladesh and Burma. In the upcoming two weeks, the NCEP GFS model
forecast is predicting an approximate east-west and then a north-south
rainfall pattern of dry-west is forecast over the region in the first and
second weeks respectively.

*North American Monsoons:*

Above-average rainfall has been observed over portions of southwestern US
and northwestern Mexico as well as much of central and southern Mexico
during the past week.

Rainfall accumulations over the past 30 days were below-average for much of
eastern Mexico along the Gulf and above-average over western Mexico.

NCEP/GFS Forecasts call for above-average precipitation for portions of
central Mexico during the next two weeks.
