The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Below-average rainfall was observed across the far western West Africa.

Weekly rainfall surpluses exceeded 100mm over parts of Cote d’Ivoire,
southern Nigeria and western CAR.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over much of Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, western Liberia, parts of
southern Mali, northwestern Cote d’Ivoire, northeastern Benin, much of
Nigeria, western and northern Cameroon, southern Chad, western Sudan, and
northern CAR.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits remain over
southeastern China, central India, over almost all of Australia, New
Guinea, parts of Malaysia, as well as over Afghanistan. Elsewhere, the
rainfall amounts received were at normal to slightly above normal levels.
For the past 30 days, rainfall deficits are noted across central India,
central eastern China, Japan, South Korea, Papua New Guinea. Elsewhere
rainfall received was at slightly elevated levels.

In this past week, rainfall amounts were deficient across most of India,
Koreas, northeastern Japan, Burma, southwestern China, New Guinea.
Elsewhere rainfall was quite spotty and spatially irregular. According to
the India Met. Dept, since the first of June till today, All India Rainfall
has been 12 % deficient. In the upcoming two weeks, the NCEP GFS model
forecast is predicting normal to slightly above normal rainfall over
central India, northeastern China, below normal rainfall over southern
India, southeastern China, and parts of some southeast Asian countries such
as Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

*North American Monsoons:*

Above-average rainfall has been observed over much of central Mexico during
the past week. However, precipitation in southern and northwestern Mexico
was below-average during that period.

Rainfall accumulations over the past 30 days were below-average for much of
eastern Mexico along the Gulf and above-average over western Mexico.

NCEP/GFS Forecasts call for above-average precipitation for portions of
central and northwestern Mexico during next week.
