The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Weekly rainfall surpluses exceeded 100mm over local areas in southern
Ethiopia, western Tanzania, southern DRC and northwestern Zambia.

Rainfall was below-average over much of the Gulf of Guinea countries.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over western and northern Angola, southern and eastern DRC, Rwanda,
Burundi, western Tanzania, southern Uganda, southwestern and northeastern
Kenya, eastern and southern Ethiopia, and portions of Somalia. In contrast,
there is an increased chance for below-average rainfall over northern DRC,
northern Congo-Brazzaville and southern CAR.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits remain over
southeastern China, over almost eastern two thirds of Australia (except
along some coasts), Papua New Guinea, as well as over the Middle East and
parts of northern India. Elsewhere, in general, the rainfall amounts
received were at normal to slightly above normal levels. For the past 30
days, the notable features are the lower rainfall amounts over
northwestern Australia and over New Guinea island, and also over coastal
south eastern China.

In this past week, the rainfall amounts received over the entire region in
general has been below normal, particularly over large parts of the
maritime Indonesia, and southeastern China. In the upcoming two weeks, the
NCEP GFS model is predicting near to above normal rainfall over southeast
Asian countries and parts of Indonesia, but continued less rainfall over
parts of Northern Australia.

*South American Monsoons:*

Long-term rainfall deficits are present over the Amazon Basin and the
Brazilian Plateau.

During the last 7 days, below-average precipitation was observed over much
of northern and the extreme southern Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and
northeastern Peru. Above-average precipitation was observed over portions
of northeastern and central Brazil, northern Argentina, northern Peru and
central Colombia.

For Days 1-7 (09 - 15 April 2018), below-average precipitation is predicted
over much of southern Brazil, northern Argentina, Paraguay and southern
Bolivia. Above-average precipitation is predicted for portions of
northeastern Brazil, eastern Colombia and southern Chile.
