Subject: Re: GFS-HR(SL) restart error

Thanks Renu for your email. Unlike the Eulerian GFS, SL-GFS does not have the restart capability anymore. The files sig1r96*,sig2r96*and sfcr96* written under $COMROT/RESTART cannot be used to restart the model. Instead, the model can restart using history files (sigf96 and sfc96). Note that it is not reproducible after restart.

Please set
USE_RESTART=NO

FHSTRT=96

export SIGI=$COMOUT/ export SIGI=$SIGIND/sigf$FHSTRT.gfs.$CDATE
export SIGI2=/dev/null
export SFCI=$SIGIND/sfcf$FHSTRT.gfs.$CDATE

By doing so, there is no need to write restart files under $COMROT/RESTART every 24 hours either to save CPU time. you can set, for instance, FHRES=264, if you are running 240-hour forecast.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Dear Sir,

I am trying to restart the run of GFS-HR(T574-SL).

Restart files for 96 hrs has been created in the $COMROT/RESTART folder(restart file is written every 24 hours).

I have modified para_config_T574 file. Variable USE_RESTART is modified to YES and FHSTRT to 96.

Forecast run restart from 96 hours. It reads sig1r96*,sig2r96*and sfcr96* without any error.

Model runs until it reads lonsperlat.dat file then abruptly run stopped with the following errors:
