The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems (SAMS.ppt, AFMS.ppt and AAMS.ppt) have been
updated on the CPC Global Monsoons website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons (AFMS.ppt):*

Another week of moderate to heavy rainfall sustained moisture surpluses
over much of Zimbabwe, central and southern Mozambique and northern
Botswana.

Suppressed rainfall prevailed over Angola, and many places of East Africa,
extending into eastern Zambia, northern Malawi and northern Mozambique.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for below-average rainfall
over much of Angola and portions of southwestern DRC. In contrast, there is
an increased chance for above-average rainfall over southeastern DRC, much
of Zambia, Zimbabwe, central and northern Mozambique, Malawi, southern
Tanzania and northern Madagascar.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons (AAMS.ppt):*

For the past 90 days, the rainfall over large parts of south Asia and
southeast Asia have been below normal. For the past 30 days, rainfall over
the region as a whole in general has been either at above normal levels.
However, over southern India, the region of Northeast winter monsoon, over
Papa New Guinea and far northern Australia, rainfall has been below normal.

In this past week rainfall was almost little seasonal rainfall over most of
India and China. However, rainfall was above normal over Japan, Malaysia,
Philippines and Indonesia, while it was below normal over Papa New Guinea
and northeastern Australia. For the next couple of weeks, the NCEP GFS
model predicts average or slightly above average rainfall for this time of
the season over much of the region except over northern Australia.

*South American Monsoons (SAMS.ppt):*

Rainfall deficits continue over the core monsoon region of central Brazil
and the southern Amazon Basin.

During the last 7 days (15-21 December 2014), below-average precipitation
was observed over the southern and eastern Amazon Basin, and portions of
southeastern and southern Brazil. Above-average precipitation was observed
over Peru, portions of northern Argentina, extreme southern Brazil, and
southern Northeast Brazil.

For 22-28 December 2014, below average precipitation is predicted for
Venezuela, the Amazon Basin, Central and southeastern Brazil, Bolivia,
northern Paraguay, and northern Argentina. Above-average precipitation is
predicted for most of Peru, southern Brazil, extreme northeastern Argentina
and Uruguay.
