The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems (SAMS.ppt, AFMS.ppt and AAMS.ppt) have been
updated on the CPC Global Monsoons website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons (AFMS.ppt):*

Rainfall continued to be below-average over the northern part of Southern
Africa region, and many places of East Africa.

Portions of Botswana, Zimbabwe, central Mozambique and eastern South Africa
received above-average rainfall.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over western Zambia, portions of eastern Botswana, much of Zimbabwe and
southern Mozambique. In contrast, there is an increased chance for
below-average rainfall over southern Tanzania, Malawi and northern
Mozambique.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons (AAMS.ppt):*

For the past 90 days, the rainfall over much of central and southern India,
southeast Asia and central/eastern Australia has been below normal. Only
parts of northeastern India and eastern China had regions of above normal
rainfall. For the past 30 days, rainfall over the region as a whole in
general has been at near or above normal levels. However, over southeastern
India, the small region of Northeast winter monsoon, rainfall has been
below normal.

In this past week rainfall was above normal over coastal regions of eastern
Australia and near normal across India. But across much of maritime
Indonesia, rainfall has been below normal. At the time of this writing,
there are no active hurricanes/storms anywhere on the global oceans. For
the next couple of weeks, the NCEP GFS model predicts below normal rainfall
over Indonesia and above normal monsoon over Australia in the first week,
and near normal rainfall in the second week.

*South American Monsoons (SAMS.ppt):*

Rainfall deficits continue over the core monsoon region of central Brazil
and the southern Amazon Basin.

During the last 7 days (8-14 December 2014), below-average precipitation
was observed over most of the western and central Amazon Basin, southern
Paraguay, and portions of Southeast Brazil. Above-average precipitation
was observed over Colombia, portions of northern Argentina and central
Brazil.

For 15-21 December 2014, below average precipitation is predicted for
portions of the central and western Amazon Basin, Bolivia, Paraguay, and
southern and southeastern Brazil. Above-average precipitation is predicted
for most of Colombia, southern Peru, central Brazil and Uruguay.
