[Ncep.list.fv3-announce] questions/answers on fv3 code management

Dear all,

I would like to use this list to answer some commonly asked questions on
fv3 code management.

1) How to access fv3gfs repository:

Please fill out the fv3gfs access form at:
https://vlab.ncep.noaa.gov/group/fv3gfs/access
Code managers will receive email notifications on the access request. For
non-NOAA users, the vlab account user name needs to be provided to code
managers.

2) How to propose code changes:

Attached is the slide on fv3 code management from EMC management. It is
important that developers start with a vlab ticket(issue) to describe the
proposed work and the expected code and science impact before working on
the code. Please make sure to list the project associated with the work.
The NEMSfv3gfs and fv3 vlab issue websites can be found at:

https://vlab.ncep.noaa.gov/redmine/projects/comfv3/issues

Please note:
- *all the code changes going to the FV3GFS implementation are subject to
the approval of EMC management.*
- A branch without ticket/issue may get deleted.

3) How to make code changes and get them committed to repository:

can't access this file.

4) How to receive NEMSfv3gfs announcement:

All the FV3 announcement will be sent out through NEMSfv3gfs vlab news and
through FV3 announcement list. To receive the announcement automatically,
developers can go to vlab page:
https://vlab.ncep.noaa.gov/redmine/projects/nemsfv3gfs/news
Click on "watch" on the top right corner.
