The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Weekly rainfall surpluses exceeded 100mm over many parts of Ethiopia.
Rainfall surpluses in excess of 100mm were also observed over parts of
Sierra Leone and Liberia, southern Nigeria, local areas in Sudan, eastern
Kenya and parts of Somalia.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
across much of the Gulf of Guinea countries, and portions of Congo,
northern Angola, DRC, and southern Ethiopia.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, the rainfall pattern was overall near to above normal
over India, Bangladesh, Burma, and South China Sea countries, but less than
normal over China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and
southeastern Australia. For the past 30 days, much of India except northern
India, received above normal rainfall. Elsewhere, much of the whole region
received below normal rainfall, except South Korea.

In this past week, as the summer southwest monsoon season has officially
come to an end in India, the rainfall over the whole monsoon region is at
near or below normal levels. The northeast winter monsoon (Oct-Dev) is
about to start. For the next two weeks, the NCEP GFS model forecasts
slightly above normal rainfall over southern India and parts of Indonesia.
Elsewhere, below normal rainfall is forecast, except over parts of
Indonesian islands.

*South American Monsoons:*

During the last 7 days, below-average precipitation was observed over
portions of northwestern and southern Brazil, central Argentina, southern
Chile and northern Colombia. Above-average precipitation was observed over
much of the extreme southern Brazil, Uruguay and central Colombia.

For 07 - 13 October 2019, NCEP/GFS forecasts call for below-average
precipitation over portions of the central and southern Brazil, southern
Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, southern Peru and northwestern Colombia.
Above-average precipitation is predicted for portions of Uruguay, northern
Peru and southern Colombia.
