The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Below-average rainfall was observed over portions of the Gulf of Guinea
countries, including Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. In contrast, weekly
rainfall surpluses exceeded 100mm over local areas in eastern Tanzania.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over parts of Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, western DRC, Angola, parts of
Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Somalia. In contrast, there is an increased
chance for below-average rainfall over parts Zambia, eastern Namibia,
Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits remain in general over
parts of northern & central India, Koreas, Japan, coastal eastern China,
Papua New Guinea, and parts of south eastern Australia. Elsewhere the
monsoon rainfall is at normal to above normal levels. For the past 30
days, below normal rainfall deficits are visibly noted along the coastal
areas of southern peninsular India, parts of Malaysia, Cambodia, and Papua
New Guinea.

In this past week, the observed rainfall amounts have generally been weak,
but the deep southern coastal India got some relief. Elsewhere, below
normal rainfall is also noted over eastern China, Cambodia, Vietnam
Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia. In the upcoming two weeks, the
NCEP GFS model predicts very heavy rainfall near the southern tip of India
in the southern part of the states of Tamilnadu and Kerala in India at
least in the first week.

*South American Monsoons:*

Long-term rainfall deficits are present over the Amazon Basin and Brazilian
Plateau.

During the last 7 days, below-average precipitation was observed over much
of central Brazil, northern Bolivia, portions of Paraguay, Uruguay and
northeastern Argentina. Above-average precipitation was observed over
portions of southern Brazil and Colombia.

For Days 1-7 (30 Oct – 05 Nov 2017), below-average precipitation is
predicted over western Colombia, northwestern and extreme southern Brazil
and southern Chile. Above-average precipitation is predicted for portions
of central and southern Brazil, central Bolivia and eastern Colombia.
