The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons

*HIGHLIGHTS:*



*African Monsoons:*



Below-average rainfall was observed over many places in the Gulf of Guinea
countries, much of CAR and South Sudan, and portions of Ethiopia and
Somalia. In contrast, parts of DRC, much of Tanzania, northern Malawi, and
portions of Kenya had above-average rainfall.



Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over parts of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, southern Mali, portions
of Ethiopia and Somalia. In contrast, there is an increased chance for
below-average rainfall over portions of CAR and South Sudan.





*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*



Not available until 01 May, 2017.





*South American Monsoons:*



Long-term rainfall deficits are present over the Amazon Basin and central
Brazil.



During the last 7 days (17-23 Apr 2017), below-average precipitation was
observed over portions of Ecuador, northern Peru, northern and the extreme
southern Brazil.  Above-average precipitation was observed over much of
Colombia, northern Bolivia, Paraguay and west-central Brazil.



For 24 - 30 Apr 2017, below-average precipitation is predicted over
portions of Peru, northern Argentina, as well as northern and central
Brazil.  Above-average precipitation is predicted for northern Bolivia,
Paraguay, southern Chile, and southern Brazil.
