The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Above-average rainfall was observed over portions of the Gulf of Guinea and
the Greater Horn of Africa countries, whereas suppressed rainfall prevailed
across much of Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, southern Chad,
southwestern Sudan, and portions of DRC and Angola.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for below-average rainfall
over many places in the Gulf of Guinea and the neighboring areas of
southern Sahel. In contrast, there is an increased chance for above-average
rainfall over northeastern Angola, southern and eastern DRC, Rwanda,
Burundi and western Uganda.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

Not available for this week.

*South American Monsoons:*

Long-term rainfall deficits are present over Brazilian Plateau and southern
Brazil.

During the last 7 days (26 Sept. – 02 Oct. 2016), below-average
precipitation was observed over Venezuela, much of the western and southern
Brazil. Above-average precipitation was observed over portions of
Colombia, northern Peru, southern Amazon Basin and much of central Brazil.

For 03 - 09 October 2016, below-average precipitation is predicted over
portions of northern South America and southern Brazil. Above-average
precipitation is predicted over much of central South America and central
Argentina.
