The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Weekly total rainfall exceeded 100mm over portions of Guinea, northern
Sierra Leone, eastern Liberia, southern Cote d’Ivoire and local areas in
western Ethiopia, while suppressed rainfall prevailed across the Lake
Victoria region.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
throughout portions of Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso,
northern Nigeria, northern Cameroon, northern CAR, southern Chad, portions
of western Sudan and western Ethiopia. In contrast, there is an increased
chance for below-average rainfall over portions of Congo and northern DRC.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days rainfall amounts are showing deficits to various
extents over large parts of Australia, central and southwestern India, and
large deficits over southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Laos,
Vietnam, and Cambodia, the Philippines and eastern Papua New Guinea. However,
northeastern India, Burma, coastal southeastern China and many parts of
Indonesia received above normal rainfall. For the past 30 days the
rainfall situation was deficient over central India, coastal Western Ghats,
Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, the Philippines islands and parts of New Guinea.
However, coastal eastern India, northeast India, Burma, and parts of
southeastern
China and Indonesia had received more rainfall.

In this past week, monsoon rainfall is generally deficient across central
India, eastern Asian countries, Indonesia, central eastern China, and
Japan. The India Met. Dept. has announced the Indian Southwest monsoon has
onset over the southwestern state of Kerala a few days ago. In the next
couple of weeks the NCEP GFS model is predicting below normal rainfall over
central India and many parts of east Asian countries, coastal southeastern
China and above normal rainfall over Nepal, Burma, and parts of eastern
China.

*North American Monsoons:*

Below-average rainfall has been observed over southern Mexico during the
past week.

Rainfall accumulations over the past 30 days were below-average over
central and southern Mexico.

NCEP/GFS Forecasts call for above-average rainfall for southern Mexico
during the 13-19 June 2016.

*South American Monsoons:*

The South American Monsoon System wet season has ended. The annual summary
will be available on the CPC web site beginning 8 June 2016.
