The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems (SAMS.ppt, AFMS.ppt and AAMS.ppt) have been
updated on the CPC Global Monsoons website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons (AFMS.ppt):*

Portions of Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and western Mozambique continued to
receive moderate to heavy rainfall, whereas suppressed rainfall prevailed
over much of Angola, Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, DRC, and portions of
Tanzania.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for below-average rainfall
over much of Angola, and portions of northern Namibia and northern
Botswana. In contrast, there is an increased chance for above-average
rainfall over southern Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons (AAMS.ppt):*

For the past 90 days, the rainfall over large parts of south Asia and
southeast Asia have been below normal, except over Malaysia, parts of
Indonesia, southern Philippines and Japan. Northern Australia, particularly
over northern Queensland has been abnormally dry. For the past 30 days,
rainfall over the region as a whole in general has been either at or above
normal levels, except over Papa New Guinea and Queensland.

In this past week, very little to almost no rainfall fell over India,
China, Burma, Thailand and nearby countries bordering South China Sea.
Rainfall
was mostly above normal over much of maritime land masses such as
Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia, but continues to be below normal over
Queensland and vicinity in northeastern Australia. No forecasts from NCEP
GFS models are available this week due to technical difficulties.

*South American Monsoons (SAMS.ppt):*

Rainfall deficits continue over the core monsoon region of central Brazil
and the southern Amazon Basin.

During the last 7 days (22-28 December 2014), below-average precipitation
was observed over the central and eastern Amazon Basin, portions of central
and southeastern Brazil, southern Bolivia and northern Argentina.
Above-average
precipitation was observed over the northwestern Amazon Basin, and portions
of southern Brazil and northeastern Argentina.
