The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems (SAMS.ppt, AFMS.ppt and AAMS.ppt) have been
updated on the CPC Global Monsoons website:

*African Monsoons (AFMS.ppt):*



Rainfall surpluses exceeded 100mm over portions of Tanzania and local areas
in southern Mozambique.



Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over northern Botswana, southern Zambia, much of Zimbabwe, Mozambique and
Madagascar. In contrast, there is an increased chance for below-average
rainfall, over portions of Angola and DRC.

*South American Monsoons (SAMS.ppt):*



Long-term precipitation deficits continue over the core monsoon region and
southern Brazil.



During the last 7 days (23-29 Dec 2013), below-average precipitation was
observed over southern Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and northern Argentina.
Above-average precipitation was observed over Suriname, French Guiana, and
portions of eastern Brazil.



For 30 December 2013 - 5 January 2014, below-average precipitation is
predicted for most of the Amazon Basin, central Brazil, and eastern
Bolivia. Above-average precipitation is predicted for Peru, southern
Paraguay and southern Brazil.
