Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
--- Craig Mattocks

1. Availability of RWPS (Regional Wave Prediction System based on WaveWatch
III) data from the experimental ftp server:

has been sporadic. Note: RWPS is not operational yet, it runs on the Cray
development cluster which is not always available.
1. Yesterday, then NHC legacy Hurricane Hotline suffered bursts of loud
static sounds and severe background echos, which made it difficult to hear
others on the Medium Range Conference call. Local ATT carrier Southeastern
Bell arrived @ 5:09 pm EST 11/20/17 at NHC. Tests were good end-to-end
between Demarc and Teleco Central Office. Trouble Ticket 7N1701849 (opened
by Senior Hurricane Specialist Mike Brennan) is expected to automatically
close within 24 hours @ 5:42 pm on Tuesday, 11/21/17 after the 1700 UTC
(noon) Medium Range Conference call. Acting HSU Branch Chief Dan Brown
reports more static this morning so this ticket may need to be re-opened.
Other items:
1. The NCEP VPN (secure virtual private network) began slowing down
yesterday at 2:52 PM. TSB Developer Matt Onderlinde obtained network
transfer speeds of 0.37 Mbps down/0.51 Mbps up. It seems to be functioning
normally now, with connection speeds of 53.9 down/18.7 up this morning.
