Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
--- Craig

Other items:

1. The computer audit penetration testing team, led by NOAA IT Security
Officer Beckie Koonge, is on-site at NHC this week to conduct an assessment
of our computer security. Tests will be conducted from Rick Knabb's office
and the library. Penetration testing (exploit attempts) of servers, web
servers, and desktops (both Linux and Windows) will be aggressive.

2. Root cause of P-Surge DATACHK job failure (from the SDM's log):

On Sunday 7 May 2017, the /prod/psurge/psurge_datachk job was in 'submit'
mode on the Luna Cray, and SOS staff observed that it was in the 'run'
state on the system, but it wasn't actually running. IDSB SPA TL Steven
Earle noted that this appeared to be similar to recent issues with
malformed job submissions going through LSF (load sharing facility). The
SPA team will open an IBM ticket for this job.

Note: The last time this occurred (December 15, 2016), this failure was
caused by a configuration problem - the submission account was 'atcf-build'
instead of 'atcf-ops'.
