Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
1. Yesterday's 18Z Atlantic/NH2 NWPS simulation once again only ran through
102 hours. TSB contacted the NCEP/EMC Wave Modeling Group to see if this is
being caused by the expansion of the grid domains. Roberto Padilla
confirmed that the wind forcing ran out to the full 168 hours and Doug Gaer
verified that the output files contain data for all 168 hours. Perhaps a
GFE setting was reverted during a recent AWIPS II patch. Until the exact
cause is identified, TAFB forecasters are advised to rerun the wave model
simulation when this occurs.
1. Yesterday, after two PSurge test runs with fake storm ID al892017, the
parallel ("_PARA" suffix) and internal ("DATAFLOW, INTERNAL" in the
metadata) PSurge DBNet product alerts were successfully transmitted,
received and the data was ingested.
2. Senior Hurricane Specialist Jack Beven reported that the Hurricane
Hotline began making a continuous high-pitched noise at about 10 am EDT
(1400Z) Thursday, 23 March. He submitted an NCO Help Desk ticket (assigned
to Chris Parris). Later, TAFB fore casters received a call from WFO-CHS
(Charleston, SC), asking about the Hurricane Hotline. The phones in HSU
were off the hook with an audible noise when the swing shift arrived, so
the forecasters assumed that a ticket was open with AT&T.
1. RFC #222 - Update the displayed N-AWIPS legends for GOES-16 and Himawari
satellite imagery to include channel number and wavelength. Also add a new
water vapor color table because the old color table only works for
GOES-13/15 imagery. Adding new supplemental color table from CIRA for
viewing IR channels. To be implemented on Monday, March 27 at 1530Z (11:30
