Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
--- Craig Mattocks
1. GFE/NCP issues: 0015L - Make HSF edit area procedure did not run prior
to formatting the EP3 (High Seas Forecast for Tropical SE Pacific). Error
message showed bad connectivity to a server. Logged out of LX3 and logged
back in. HSF procedure and EP3 formatter ran successfully.
2. Lead Forecaster Jeff Lewitsky added a remark to the EP3 formatter
explaining a transition in service from TAFB to Peru at the end of June:
1. Imagery on the NRL TC web page is still not updating. Senior Hurricane
Specialist Mike Brennan contacted NRL about problems with their TC web
page. The queue for the NRL computer cluster, on which the satellite
imagery is processed, has stopped so everything is on hold, stuck in the
queue. They are working on fixing this problem.
1. WCOSS: There will be a full site outage in Reston, VA from Monday, June
12 - Thursday, June 15 to reconfigure the Cray filesystem. The current hps
filesystem will be broken down into three architecturally independent
/gpfs/hps (ops filesystem)
Temporary and shared filesystems (/gpfs/hps/ptmp and /gpfs/hps/stmp) will
also be divided into 3 distinct filesystems. Changes to environment
variables will have to be made to multiple ATCF scripts and jobs in the NHC
guidance suite so they will continue to run on the Crays.
1. RFC 236 - 'tafb_tweet.py' v1.1.0, 'tafb_tweet.csh' v1.1.0 - Add a new
menu option to TAFB .fvwm menus on N-AWIPS machines. This runs a script
that launches a python GUI from the NHC comp server. The GUI allows a
forecaster to post a short message that is tweeted on the NHC_TAFB twitter
account and appears at the top of the NHC marine forecast webpage. The
functionality was adapted from existing scripts used by the Hurricane
Specialist Unit for NHC_Atlantic and NHC_Pacific. To be implemented on
Tuesday, June 6 at 1200Z (8 am EDT).
