TAFB Shift Log for Mon Jul 24 2017 05:23:40 GMT-0400 (EDT)

Shift: Mid-Shift

Pacific Forecaster: D Mundell

Atlantic Forecaster: J Lewitsky

Surface Analyst: J Aguirre-Echevarria

Technical Issues Summary:

GFE/NCP issues: The NWPS became inoperable during the Day shift on Sunday
and has not run to completion since the 06z runs Jul 23. The Atlantic
forecaster triggered an Atlantic/NH2 run at 1516z while the Pacific
forecaster had already triggered a Pacific/NH1 run at 1430z. This is a big
no-no and caused all subsequent runs to either fail or get hung up. This
was quite unfortunate as this is the time when the NWPS is needed the most
with 3 tropical cyclones in the Pacific basin. If the NWPS does not come
back online soon then there will be coldstart issues for days going forward.

N-AWIPS issues:

Other issues:

Miscellaneous issues: Danger graphic label for Irwin needs to be manually
adjusted by the Surface desk with 3 tropical cyclones active in the
Pacific. Analysts and forecasters should check after each automatic Danger
issuance (0345z, 0945z, etc.) to make sure that the labels are OK and if
not they should run the Danger edit and send scripts to manually adjust.
