Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
--- Craig Mattocks
1. Large situational awareness monitor on east wall out of service, as is
right screen on west wall. TAFB forecasters are advised to submit an NCO
Help Desk ticket when this occurs; this time submitted by TSB.
1. ATCF issues: Atlantic workstation is a little slow. Could consider
removing the front half of Harvey from the decks to make it faster? This is
likely caused by an insufficient amount of vRAM memory on the video board
or RAM memory corruption. Forecasters are advised to reboot the workstation
when this occurs. NRL fixed the problems with large A-decks in the most
recent version of the ATCF by only processing the most recent portion of
the deck when creating specific display products (this processing runs on
the ATCF server, not the workstations).
2. N-AWIPS issues: The screen on ridges is messed up. It looked squashed
NS, but also the wind vectors are more spread out than normal-- something
is going on with the resolution. None of the scripts work very well.
Doug/Brian/Matt fixed the problem but scripts need to be updated with
higher resolution (<=0.5 deg) to have the same look. NCO Linux Sysadmin
Brian Maher reset the screen to native resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels),
which should fix these problems.
1. Other Techincal issues: Acting TSB Chief Pablo Santos and NCO Windows
Sysadmin Marc Laurent are working on the phone forwarding issues with
extensions 4418 and 4419. As of now, only 2 phones are operating: 4415 and
4417. Update: Marc has opened a ticket with Verizon, NCO Infrastructure and
Web Services Branch (IWSB) Chief Doug Fenderson said that Verizon is ready
to escalate this issue once they receive the ticket number (2017082222696,
provided by Marc).
