Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
--- Craig Mattocks
1. Senior Hurricane Specialist Mike Brennan is investigating why the HSU shift log entries in Google Forms are sometimes being sent more than once.
1. Morning Rounds Google Form is not sending out email messages.
2. Low buoy data counts. At 0620 UTC yesterday, the NCO Real Time Data Monitoring (RTDM) system began flagging for low moored buoy data counts (20 to 25% of normal). The problem was caused by a couple of failed hard drives on an NDBC server. Data counts returned to normal one hour after the hard drives were replaced.
1. Failures in the assimilation of AMSU-A data. An accelerated RFC (ARFC) was submitted at about 18 UTC yesterday by NCO to update the Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI) code to allow MetOp-B AMSU-A channels to be monitored and to restore the active assimilation of channels 7-13 where quality control and emissivity estimated using channel 15 is not required. The change was tested in two full GDAS/GFS and RAP cycles. More information on the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A (AMSU-A) is available at:
