Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
--- Craig Mattocks
1. GFE/NCP issues: Mary from NCF called at 1415Z to say an excess of NCU
Air data was queing up and looked like someone had restarted an EDEX server
at 1250Z. TSB's AWIPS II SysAdmins are investigating.
1. An intermittent vertical yellow line appeared in the ATCF text editor
during composition of the 17/00Z TWOAT and TWOEP products. TSB is
investigating whether these display artifacts are caused by a local video
RAM/X11 driver issue on a workstation (that might need to be rebooted soon)
or a bug in kwrite that could be writing into video memory.
2. Sr. Hurricane Specialist Stacy Stewart reported that NTRANS has not been
ingesting/displaying any upper-air data since June 14th. This is probably
related to the hard disk failure on Sr. Hurricane Specialist Mike Brennan's
workstation (pinfish), upon which a lot of NTRANS processing was done. TSB
will assess whether this processing needs to be migrated to NHC's compute
servers. TSB Developer Dave Zelinsky noted that the observed soundings are
still available in NSHARP:
so the upper-air dataflow has not been interrupted.
