Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:

1. N-AWIPS/AWIPS2 - High CPU load on the N-AWIPS workstation ridges.  
Update: TSB developer Matt Sardi noticed that many of the HSU N-AWIPS  
workstations had not been rebooted since the start of hurricane season.  
ridges (Atlantic): 69 days
tilefish (Atlantic): 69 days
tuna (Pacific): 69 days
sawfish (Pacific): 36 days
hurrback (backup): 7 days
Dave Zelinsky rebooted all of these workstations. The dual monitors came  
back without NVIDIA driver problems, so the self-annealing video driver  
script (provided by NCO's Curt Steinmetz) seems to be working well.

2. ATCF - FSU Superensemble arriving late. Update: Senior Hurricane  
Specialist Mike Brennan contacted WeatherPredict Consulting, Inc., who said  
they also noticed the delay and would set up more extensive logging on  
their end to diagnose the problem.
Other items:
1. Beginning at 02:31 UTC, there was a 9.5-hour outage in the ASCAT-A  
scatterometer data:
which NHC receives from the NESDIS STAR manati server via NCO. Dataflow was  
restored at 12:01 UTC.
RFC #185 - Turned off ingest of WCOSS-generated HWRF gempak files and began  
converting grib2 HWRF files to gempak locally [at NHC]. Ingesting the  
WCOSS-generated gempak files was saturating incoming bandwidth (due to  
increased file size - the HWRF upgrade included a resolution increase) and  
the gempak files were arriving late, thus impacting operations. Implemented  
on July 18 at 1600Z.
