Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations.
1. After rebooting the Ballyhoo workstation at the TAFB Atlantic desk, there have been no more problems with NMAP crashing when trying to load wave product grids.
2. ASCAT-B data was not available in NMAP since 18Z Monday. TAFB forecasters called the SDM - the data was available at NCO and on the NESDIS web site, so this was determined to be a local problem. Senior Hurricane Specialist Mike Brennan cleaned out his workstation (which supplied the local stream of data) and the ASCAT-B data began flowing in again.
1. No new issues.
1. The mystery of the slow connection speeds and dropouts encountered when connected to NHC’s public WiFi has been solved. A security camera was attached to the Ethernet switch to broadcast a live video feed of the work on the roof to remote managers who were monitoring the project. Unfortunately, this siphoned off the entire bandwidth of our public WiFi network. Once TSB unplugged the camera (and notified the project’s manager), network performance returned to normal.
