Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
--- Craig Mattocks

----------

TAFB:
1. There have been intermittent connectivity issues to the FTPIngest
(FTPGate) server (ftps-in1.ncep.noaa.gov) where NHC sends the surface map
and other TAFB products. TSB Developer Matt Sardi updated the FTPIngest
send script/configuration to timeout after several tries to make the
connections more robust. As of last night, NCO network support was still
working on fully resolving the underlying networking issues. If problems
persist, TAFB forecasters should contact the SDM, who is aware of the
situation. Update: the SDM reports the problem was due to problems with the
operational TG FTPS server (ftps-out1a/b.ncep.noaa.gov) at NCEP, fixed at
0127Z today. Multiple network problems (DNS, routers) ongoing across the
nation.

2. Surface Analyst Evelyn Rivera-Acevedo had problems running the launch
script for the 18Z Unified Surface Analysis (USA). TSB Web Developer Dave
Zelinsky determined that the problem was at NCEP, where receiving servers
were hanging up on attempted connections and NCO is investigating (see Item
1 above). Dave suggested that TAFB watch launch scripts that may hang up on
attempted connections, and use a Ctrl-C to skip hung processes and continue
on to the next connection written in script. No problems were encountered
with the launch of the 00Z map. TSB Developer Matt Sardi called TAFB
forecasters multiple times to monitor the situation.
HSU:

Other items:
1. There is an outage of ASCAT-A scatterometer data from 0819-1406Z today
due to a plane maneuver (orbital inclination change) by the European Space
Agency's Metop-A polar orbiting satellite.

2. Beginning at 1055Z yesterday, the GDAS (global data assimilation
system), NAM and GFS models started started alerting due to low ACARS
(aircraft) data counts, caused by power maintenance and firewall issues at
the FAA's Weather Message Switching Center Replacement System (WMSCR) in
Salt Lake City, Utah.
