Here is today's summary of NHC computer operations:
--- Craig Mattocks

----------

TAFB:
1. GFE/NCP issues: User Jeff Lewitsky (jlewitsk) is still getting 4
rainfall alert (alertviz) error banners everytime that CAVE starts up. The
NCO Help Desk ticket was reopened. NCO Windows SysAdmin Kim Gordon will
work with forecasters in TAFB ops to figure out under which account the
task scheduler for the alert is running and turn it off.

2. Other issues: TAFB forecasters changed the yellow and black cartridges
for the TAFB color laser jet printer as both were empty. Inside of the
printer was very dirty with ink dust; moisture was present near the rollers
as well.
HSU:
1. Hurricane Hotline: WFO Morehead City and WFO Charleston reported that
they could barely hear WPC on the Hurricane Hotline during Friday's (Aug.
26) medium range call (they could hear NHC fine). Senior Hurricane
Specialist Dan Brown called AT&T. The ticket opened earlier (#682402168)
remains open and they are currently doing some work on it. It appears the
problem might be originating from Eastern Region HQ.
Other items:
1. Critical Weather Day (CWD) Declared

 From the SDM's log:

0230Z - NHC has reported that they are putting up TS
watches for the Outer Banks because of TD#8. I coordinated CWD
with NHC's Jack Bevin and ER's John Guiney...then declared CWD
from 29/03Z-31/18Z with ER's participation. All notifications
were made for the CWD. Also, there is a high likelihood that
this CWD will be extended past 31/18Z due to impacts on FL from
TD#9 and Hawaii from TS Madeline later in the week. More to
come as the fcsts become more clearer for those systems in the
next few days.

2. TSB AWIPS expert Chris Mello reports that a national TCV (TCVAT3) was
produced in test mode for Tropical Depression #8 (storm ID AL082016).

NHC RFCs:
RFC #196 - Migrate Bourne shell scripts that generate time-height section
analyses in GIF format of various upper air soundings throughout the
tropical Atlantic/Eastern Pacific. GIFs are posted on the NHC website.
These scripts are being migrated from the pinfish server to the comp03
server. This transition will facilitate troubleshooting and make the
generation of these time section GIFs more robust/less prone to outages.
Implemented on Tuesday, August 23 at 1500Z (11 am EDT) by Matt Sardi.

RFC #192 text.pl v3.0.1 - Remove code calls to generate blank placeholders
for TAFB Satellite Rainfall forecast graphics on the NHC experimental
webpage. Was to be implemented by Monica Bozeman on August 15 at 1500Z;
postponed until Monday, August 29 at 1500Z (11 am EDT) pending experimental
review board paperwork approvals.
