NOAA nowCOAST Status Message

400 PM EDT Monday,  April 17, 2023

On or about 11 AM Wednesday, April 19, 2023, the nowcoast.noaa.gov domain
will be redirected from the nowCOAST instance located in the NWS/NCEP
Central Operations Integrated Dissemination Program (IDP) Data Centers in
Boulder, CO and College Park, MD to the new open-source nowCOAST instance
on AWS.   For users who are already consuming the new nowCOAST services at
beta.nowcoast.noaa.gov, please switch to use nowcoast.noaa.gov instead
following the redirect.   The beta URL will only be active until about 11
AM Thursday, April 20th.

Important Impacts:

-       Only Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Specifications (e.g. WMS)
will be supported. The Open GeoServices REST Specification will not be
supported any more.

-       Not all datasets on the present nowCOAST map services will be
available on the new nowCOAST on AWS or displayed on the new map viewer
(please see the attached list). Map services for some of the missing
datasets will be stood up during the next one to two years depending on
developer resources.  Users may want to seek alternative services such as
NWS Cloud GIS Services (https://www.weather.gov/gis/cloudgiswebservices).

-     nowCOAST support will be downgraded from an operational 24 x 7 x 365
to an 8 x 5 supported application.

-       The NWS/NCEP/Senior Duty Meteorologist (SDM) will no longer be the
point of contact to report a nowCOAST problem to. Instead, please send your
email to nowcoast.team at noaa.gov.   We will respond during regular business
hours.
