nowCOAST Status Message

Effective on or about Monday, March 22, 2021, beginning at 1200 Coordinated
Universal Time (UTC), an upgrade to NOAA/National Ocean Service (NOS)
Operational Forecast System (OFS) for the Northern Gulf of Mexico, referred
to as NGOFS2, will be implemented operationally.

NGOFS2 integrates the existing Northern Gulf of Mexico (NGOFS),
Northeastern Gulf of Mexico (NEGOFS), and Northwestern Gulf of Mexico
(NWGOFS) into one model grid domain and extends the model domain into the
coastal waters of Mexico and into the Mississippi River up to Baton Rouge,
LA. NGOFS, NEGOFS, and NWGOFS will be decommissioned.   NGOFS2, similar to
NGOFS, will provide users with nowcast (analyses of near present) and
forecast guidance of the three-dimensional physical conditions of the
Northern Gulf of Mexico, including surface water levels and 3-D water
currents, water temperatures, and salinity out to 48 hours.  NGOFS2 will
run four times/day on NOAA's Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing
System.

Due to limited personnel and infrastructure issues, nowCOAST will not be
upgraded by March 22nd to ingest and process the NGOFS2 output files.
Thus, beginning on March 22nd, users will not be able to consume maps of
forecast guidance for  the Northern Gulf of Mexico from nowCOAST's map
service: *guidance_model_coastalocean_ngofs_time*.  In addition, due to the
decommissioning of NWGOFS and NEGOFS, there will be no maps of forecast
guidance available from the map services:
*guidance_model_coastalocean_nwgofs_time* and
*guidance_model_coastalocean_negofs_time.*

A nowCOAST status message will be sent out when the NGOFS2 forecast
guidance becomes available via the map service
*guidance_model_coastalocean_ngofs_time* and displayed on the nowCOAST map
viewer.
