On Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, a new version of NOAA's nowCOAST was
implemented into operations at NOAA IDP Data Centers due to changes in the
output files from NWS/NCEP's Global Real-Time Ocean Forecast System
(GRTOFS) Version 2.0, which was implemented operationally on NOAA WCOSS on
the 10th.

NWS' GRTOFS is based on the Hybrid Coordinates Ocean Model (HYCOM), an
eddy resolving, hybrid coordinate numerical ocean prediction model. GRTOFS
has a horizontal resolution of 1/12 degree and 32 hybrid vertical
layers. GRTOFS provide global forecast guidance of water levels, currents,
water temperature, and salinity out to 192 hours.

The new version of nowCOAST was developed by Jason Greenlaw, nowCOAST Lead
Developer. It was implemented operationally at the NOAA IDP Data Centers
by the NCO Onboarding Team.

Maps of GRTOFS forecast guidance are available at nowCOAST's map service
guidance_model_ocean_grtofs_time.
