NOS nowCOAST Status Message

On Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, a new version of NOAA's nowCOAST developed by
NOS Coast Survey Development Laboratory was implemented into operations at
NOAA IDP Data Centers.  The new version displays via nowCOAST's map viewer
and provides via its map services, maps of water level forecast guidance
from NOS' new Global Extratropical Surge and Tide Operational Forecast
System (GESTOFS). In addition, nowCOAST provides geo-referenced hyperlinks
to time series depicting GESTOFS latest forecast guidance at selected
locations. Screenshots of GESTOFS storm surge forecast guidance for the
Alaska region displayed on nowCOAST's map viewer and a time series plot for
Cherry Point, WA are given below.

GESTOFS  provides storm tide (storm surge plus tides) water level forecast
guidance for the entire globe, superseding all three previous operational
ESTOFS domains (ESTOFS-Atlantic, -Pacific, and -Micronesia) with superior
spatial resolution and physics. NOS Coast Survey Development Laboratory
worked with personnel from the NWS/National Centers for Environmental
Prediction's Central Operations (NCO) to implement GESTOFS into operations
on NOAA’s Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System.

The new version of nowCOAST was developed by Jason Greenlaw, nowCOAST Lead
Developer. It  was implemented  operationally at the NOAA IDP Data Centers
by the NCO Onboarding Team.

 A future version of nowCOAST will be implemented in the future that will
provide maps of water level forecast guidance for the entire GESTOFS domain
and include links to time series at additional locations.
