nowCOAST Status Message

1:28 PM EDT Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019

A new version of NOAA’s nowCOAST was implemented at approximately 10:20 AM
EDT today on the NOAA Integrated Dissemination Program’s Data Center
operated by NCEP Central Operations. The new nowCOAST version 5.3 features
the following changes:

- Switch data source for GOES-WEST imagery to GOES-17, which is the
operational GOES-WEST satellite, replacing imagery from the
previous-generation GOES-15 satellite. GOES-17 became the operational
GOES-WEST satellite in February 2019. GOES-15 serves as the operational
GOES-WEST backup. As of this morning, the GOES imagery available on
nowCOAST includes imagery from both the GOES-EAST (GOES-16) and GOES-WEST
(GOES-17) satellites.

- Return of GOES-EAST water vapor imagery

- Update geo-referenced hyperlinks for NWS text zone forecasts including
NWS Surf Zone forecasts.

Please note that the geographic coverage area of the mosaic of the
GOES-WEST and GOES-EAST imagery is smaller than what was previously
available on nowCOAST due to the need to use different source files from
NESDIS.

If you have any questions, please email us at nowcoast.team at noaa.gov.
