A new version of nowCOAST was implemented yesterday afternoon. The new
version (5.0.2) includes several changes to improve the operations of
nowCOAST's data ingest system, map viewer, and Point Forecast web
service. Also, based on user feedback, the symbology for nowCOAST's
geo-referenced hyperlinks data layers (e.g. Links to In-Situ
Coastal/Lake/Ocean Platforms) was modified to improve the readability of
station and forecast point locations and the GOES Visible Cloud Imagery
was set as the default cloud imagery on the map viewer from 16 to 21 UTC
each day while the GOES IR Imagery is the default for the remaining
hours. The default transparency of GOES cloud imagery was also modified
to improve the visibility of underlying features such as active NWS
Watches, Warnings and Advisories for hazardous conditions.

In addition, nowCOAST's Info Depot (help page) was expanded to provide
more detailed information on how to use nowCOAST's REST map services and
WMS (http://nowcoast.noaa.gov/help/#!section=mapservices) based on user
feedback. The metadata for each nowCOAST REST map service were also
revised to correct typos and remove outdated information.

Our sincere thanks to the personnel of NWS/NCEP Central Operations for
implementing nowCOAST Ver. 5.0.2 into operations on the NOAA IDP
Infrastructure.
