NOAA/NOS nowCOAST STATUS MESSAGE
5:05 PM EDT Monday, Sept. 21, 2015
At 12 PM EDT today, NOAA/NOS' nowCOAST GIS web mapping portal
(http://nowcoast.noaa.gov) Version 5.0 was released and became
an operationally supported product in the NOAA IDP Infrastructure
operated by NWS/NCEP Central Operations (NCO).
The new version features time-enabled ArcGIS Server map services that
can be accessed via Representational State Transfer (REST)
or OGC Web Map Service (WMS) protocols, a new interactive map viewer,
and additional maps of NOAA products.
The new map viewer utilizes the time-enabled ArcGIS REST map services,
allowing users to display and animate
observational data for the past few hours and forecasts or model
guidance for several days into the future.
A user can choose from a variety of different map backgrounds and overlays.
Some of the new map layers include 1) latest NWS watches, warnings, and
advisories, 2) latest NWS/SPC Convective and
Fire Weather Outlooks, 3) forecast guidance from additional NOS
oceanographic forecast modeling systems,
3) world-wide coverage from NWS Global Real-Time Ocean Forecast System,
4) lightning strike density for the past 4 hours,
5) tropical cyclone and intensity forecasts from the NWS Central Pacific
Hurricane Center, and 6) additional forecast projections for selected
NDFD forecast elements.
nowCOAST was developed by NOS Coast Survey Development Laboratory and
was migrated to NOAA IDP infrastructure in collaboration
with NWS Office of Dissemination and NCO.
