<tt>Hello NEMS developers,<br>
<br>
couple of notes on transition from Vlab to GitHub.<br>
<br>
<br>
<b><font size="+1">1) Old NEMS branches:</font></b> since there
are just few NEMS branches on Vlab, and NEMS is with very simple
directory structure, suggestion for user with old branches is to
manually copy files from their branch when cloning new application
(like NEMSfv3gfs, ...).<br>
<br>
We are in the process of creating rules for forking and branching
within GitHub.<br>
<br>
<br>
<b><font size="+1">2) Shortcuts for cloning from GitHub:</font></b><br>
<br>
On each machine where you do your work (WCOSS, Theia, Jet, Gaea,
...) in file in your home directory:<br>
<br>
<font color="#3333ff">~/.gitconfig</font><br>
add two lines:<br>
<font color="#3333ff">[url <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="https://github.com/NOAA-EMC/">"https://github.com/NOAA-EMC/"</a>]<br>
insteadof = github:</font><br>
<br>
Now instead of typing whole path:</tt><tt><tt> <font
color="#3333ff">git clone <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://github.com/NOAA-EMC/NEMS">https://github.com/NOAA-EMC/NEMS</a></font><br>
</tt>you can clone from GitHub using shorcut: <font
color="#3333ff">git clone github:NEMS</font><br>
We used similar shortcut for Vlab: <font color="#3333ff">
git clone gerrit:NEMS</font><br>
<br>
<b><font size="+1">3) Passwordless access to GitHub:</font></b><br>
Please follow Kate's document (explained under <font
color="#3333ff">step 1, section d</font>)</tt><br>

<br>

<font size="+1"><b>4) Tutorial on GitHub.</b></font><br>
Soon there will be tutorial on using GitHub. We are aware that you
cannot ask questions before you try things, but please try to
contribute to the list of questions/topics you would like to see
covered on the tutorial. Mark Iredell set up Google document for
that purpose:</tt><br>
