NWSHQ has sent out quotas for AMS. NCEP has 25 slots. Similar to last year,
OD will determine who fills those 25 slots and then the remaining will be
placed on the waitlist. As you recall last year, everyone on the waitlist
was able to go to the AMS meeting, although we do not know how that
waitlist will be handled this year--it will depend on how many unused slots
there will be.

As a reminder, please fill out the following spreadsheet by *Wed, Aug 23* with
your travelers who plan to attend. Please complete all columns for each
traveler at:

*GUIDANCE TO FILL OUT SPREADSHEET:*

   - First...please do not promise anyone on the spreadsheet that they are
   definitely going.
   - Alternately, please do not tell anyone "you are not going" if they are
   not on the first draft of the list, because like with years past, there
   were a lot of unused slots returned and we were able
   to accommodate everyone on every wait list.

   - Fill out every column.

   - Remember to include an abstract fee under column N.
   - LOCAL travelers should be included. By local, that means they will not
   have travel orders prepared, only cost would be registration fee and
   abstract fee (if applicable)
   - Make sure you list the role for each participant as shown in column F.
   - Estimate all costs to the best of you
   r
    abilities. This will ensure quicker clearance through NOAA
    and DOC.

   The 2018 GSA per diem rate is now available. Please use the 2018 rate to
   calculate your lodging ($165) and M&E ($59) for the 98th Annual AMS
   Meeting, January 7-11, 2018 held in Austin, Texas.

   Also, deduct the $26 from the M&IE if you plan to attend the Awards
   Banquet on Wednesday.

   Texas is a tax exempt state.

*QUOTA BY OFFICE:*

   - *If you use all your slots* on the spreadsheet - make sure you keep a
   list of wait list travelers (NOTE: There is a separate tab in the sheet for
   you to add your wait listed travelers).
   - *If you DO NOT use all your slots* assigned above - all unused slots
   will be
   redistributed
   with coordination through John Murphy and Kevin Cooley.

The AMS group travel call has just been announced. At this time, NWSHQ has
not issued any limits on slots, but we expect that could happen. For now,
please fill out the following spreadsheet by *Wed, Aug 23* with your

Travelers can only take 75% of the M&IE for the first and last day of
travel.

The Annual Banquet is included in the registration fee. Please reduce the
meal from the M&IE.

Individuals will be notified via email once Group Travel is approved and
may register for the conference using their Government issued travel card.
