outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall over Liberia,
Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, southern Togo, Benin, southern Benin, portions of
Nigeria, Cameroon, CAR and western South Sudan. In contrast, there is an
increased chance for below-average rainfall over northern Guinea, parts of
southern Mali, and central DRC.</span></p>

Monsoons (AAMS.ppt):</b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">For the past 90 days rainfall amounts are showing deficits
to various extents over large parts of Australia and southeast Asian countries
such as Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, the Philippines and eastern
Papua New Guinea.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">  </span>However, northeastern
India, Burma, coastal southeastern China and many parts of Indonesia
received<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">  </span>above normal rainfall. For the
past 30 days the rainfall situation was deficient over Thailand, Laos,
Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines islands, central eastern Australia. However,
northeast India, Burma, and parts of<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> 
</span>southeastern China and Indonesia had received more rainfall. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun:yes">  </span></p>In this past week, tropical storm Roanu in the northern
Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal region, grazed the southern and east coast of
India and finally moving on towards northeast India and Burma, gave plenty of
rain to these regions. However, the record pre-monsoon heat over interior India
has taken many lives, according to press reports. Temperatures in some parts of
interior India have soared to excess of 125 degrees F. The India Met Dept (IMD)
has announced the Indian summer southwest monsoon onset over Kerala on the 7th
of June, about a week later than normal. In the next couple of weeks the NCEP
GFS model is predicting generally normal-below normal rainfall for the whole
region, except for above normal rainfall over southeast Asian countries in the
first week

<p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">South American
Monsoons (SAMS.ppt):</b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"> </b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Long-term rainfall deficits continue over the Amazon Basin
and central Brazil. The rainy season has ended over central Brazil.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">During the last 7 days (16-22 May 2016), below-average
precipitation was observed over most of the Amazon Basin in Brazil, western
Colombia and southern Chile.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> 
</span>Above-average precipitation was observed over portions of southern
Brazil.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">For<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">  </span>23-29 May 2016,
below-average precipitation is predicted for the Amazon Basin, southern Brazil,
Uruguay and southern Chile. Above-average precipitation is predicted for
western Venezuela and most of Colombia and Ecuador.</p>
