The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Below-average rainfall was observed over many places in the Gulf of Guinea
countries.

Another week of moderate to locally heavy rainfall sustained moisture
surpluses across portions of South Sudan, southern Sudan and Ethiopia.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over much of Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leon, Liberia and western Cote
d’Ivoire. In contrast, there is an increased chance for below-average
rainfall over portions of Burkina Faso, southwestern Niger, northern Benin,
northern Nigeria, southeastern South Sudan, northeastern Uganda and
northwestern Kenya.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

Not available at this time. Will be updated later today.

*South American Monsoons:*

Long-term rainfall deficits are present over the Amazon Basin, Brazilian
Plateau and southern Brazil.

During the last 7 days, below-average precipitation was observed over areas
in western and southern Brazil, the Amazon Basin, as well as southern Chile
and western Colombia. Above-average precipitation was observed over
portions of eastern Colombia.

For Days 1-7 (25 Sep – 01 Oct 2017), below-average precipitation is
predicted over much of Venezuela, the Amazon Basin, as well as southern
Peru and southern Chile. Above-average precipitation is predicted for the
southern Brazil, Uruguay, eastern Argentina, Paraguay, southwestern Bolivia
and portions of western and northern Colombia.
