The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Rainfall was below-average across portions of central and southern Africa,
whereas many places in eastern Africa received above-average rainfall.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over southern Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, western DRC, parts of northern
Angola, portions of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and parts of Madagascar.
In contrast, there is an increased chance for below-average rainfall over
southern Angola, portions of Namibia and Botswana, eastern DRC, Burundi,
northeastern Zambia and portions of Tanzania.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits remain in general over
parts of northern & central India, South Korea, coastal southeastern China,
Papua New Guinea, and parts of south eastern Australia. Elsewhere the
monsoon rainfall is at normal to above normal levels. For the past 30
days, below normal rainfall deficits are visibly noted over southern
peninsular India, parts of eastern China, Malaysia and Indonesia, Thailand,
Laos, Cambodia, and Papua New Guinea.

In this past week, the observed rainfall amounts have generally been a
mixed pattern, with below normal rainfall amounts along coastal southeast
peninsular India. According to the India Met. Dept.(IMD), the 2017 winter
northeast monsoon over southern India (Oct-Dec) rainfall is at -4% level
from the 1st of October till date. In the upcoming two weeks, the NCEP GFS
model predicts below normal rainfall over southern peninsular India, but
more rainfall over coastal east central India and southeastern China.

*South American Monsoons:*

Long-term rainfall deficits are present over the Amazon Basin and Brazilian
Plateau.

During the last 7 days, below-average precipitation was observed over
portions of northwestern Brazil, western Colombia and eastern Argentina.
Above-average precipitation was observed over portions of central South
America and central Argentina.

For Days 1-7 (13-19 Nov 2017), below-average precipitation is predicted
over portions of northern South America, southeastern Brazil and northern
Argentina. Above-average precipitation is predicted for much of central
South America and the extreme southern Brazil.
