The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons:*

Above-average rainfall was observed over many places in the Equatorial
Africa region, including southern Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. Portions of
Angola and Namibia also received above-average rainfall.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over eastern DRC, Uganda, western Kenya, western Tanzania, Rwanda and
Burundi, and southern Zambia, Zimbabwe, northeastern South Africa and
southern Mozambique. In contrast, there is an increased chance for
below-average rainfall over portions of Angola and Namibia, western Zambia,
northwestern Botswana, and parts of Madagascar.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*

For the past 90 days, below normal rainfall deficits remain in general over
parts of northern & central India, Koreas, coastal eastern China, Papua New
Guinea, and parts of south eastern Australia. Elsewhere the monsoon
rainfall is at normal to above normal levels. For the past 30 days, below
normal rainfall deficits are visibly noted along the coastal areas of
southern peninsular India, eastern China, parts of Malaysia and Indonesia,
Cambodia, and Papua New Guinea.

In this past week, the observed rainfall amounts have generally been above
normal over coastal Tamilnadu state of southern peninsular India, Vietnam,
the Philippines, parts of Malaysia and Indonesia. Elsewhere, the rainfall
is scanty. At present, there are no tropical storms of any kind anywhere in
the global tropical ocean basins. In the upcoming two weeks, the NCEP GFS
model predicts below normal over India, Laos, and Vietnam, more rainfall
over south and eastern China in the second week, and a mixed pattern
elsewhere.

*South American Monsoons:*

Long-term rainfall deficits are present over the Amazon Basin and Brazilian
Plateau.

During the last 7 days, below-average precipitation was observed over much
of northwestern Brazil, northern Colombia and northeastern Peru.
Above-average precipitation was observed over portions of central and
southern Brazil and northern Argentina.

For Days 1-7 (06-12 Nov 2017), below-average precipitation is predicted
over western Colombia, Ecuador, portions of northern and extreme southern
Brazil, Uruguay, Northeastern Argentina and southern Chile. Above-average
precipitation is predicted for portions of central Brazil, western Bolivia
and northern Peru.
