*HIGHLIGHTS:*



*African Monsoons:*



Weekly total rainfall exceeded 100mm across southeastern Angola, western
Zambia, and parts of Zimbabwe and Mozambique.



Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
over southwestern Angola, much of Botswana, portions of western Zambia and
northern South Africa. In contrast, there is an increased chance for
below-average rainfall over portions of Angola and Madagascar.





*Asian-Australian Monsoons:*



Not available until 06 February 2017.





*South American Monsoons:*



Long-term rainfall deficits are present over the Amazon Basin and central
Brazil.



During the last 7 days (16 - 22 Jan 2017), below-average precipitation was
observed over much of Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and northern Argentina.
Above-average precipitation was observed over Ecuador, northern Peru, as
well as portions of northwestern and central Brazil.



For 23 - 29 Jan 2017, below-average precipitation is predicted over
northern Ecuador, central Peru, northern Bolivia, eastern and southern
Brazil, Uruguay, northern Argentina and southern Chile.  Above-average
precipitation is predicted for portions of southern Ecuador, northern Peru
and northwestern Brazil.
