The weekly PowerPoint presentations summarizing the recent variability of
the global monsoon systems have been updated on the CPC Global Monsoons
website:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/Global-Monsoon.shtml

*HIGHLIGHTS:*

*African Monsoons (AFMS.ppt):*

Weekly total rainfall exceeded 100mm over northern DRC, southwestern
Tanzania, local areas in western Zambia, eastern Botswana and western
Zimbabwe.

Week-1 outlooks call for an increased chance for above-average rainfall
along the Gulf of Guinea coast, southern Zambia, portions of southeastern
Angola and eastern Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, northern South Africa,
southern Malawi, and central and southern Mozambique. In contrast, there is
an increased chance for below-average rainfall over western Angola,
northwestern Namibia, Uganda, western and southern Kenya, and northern
Tanzania.

*Asian-Australian Monsoons (AAMS.ppt):*

For the past 90 days rainfall amounts was generally at near normal levels
across India, large parts of China, was a mixed pattern across the southern
and east Asia monsoon region, the Philippines and over Indonesia. However,
coastal southeastern China and western half of Borneo island had received
excessively above normal rainfall, while Papua New Guinea and northern and
central Australia had generally received below normal rainfall, except
sporadically there were some above normal spots. For the past 30 days the
rainfall situation was generally deficient over the whole region,
particularly over Australia. The exception is the western and southern
portions of Borneo island where the rainfall is at above normal levels.

In this past week, rainfall over Pakistan, far northern India, eastern
China, and over Queensland was slightly above normal. In the next couple of
weeks the NCEP GFS model is predicting above normal rainfall over Pakistan
and vicinity and parts of Indonesia, and heavy rainfall in the first week
over Guangxi and Guangdong provinces in southern China and over western
Queensland in Australia.

*South American Monsoons (SAMS.ppt):*

Recent rainfall has reduced long-term rainfall deficits over the southern
Amazon Basin and Central Brazil.

During the last 7 days (7-13 March 2016), below-average precipitation was
observed over portions of eastern and southwestern Brazil, eastern
Argentina, and southern Bolivia. Above-average precipitation was observed
over the eastern Amazon Basin and portions of Central Brazil.

For 14-20 March 2016, above-average precipitation is predicted for southern
Colombia, and the central and western Amazon Basin. Below-average
precipitation is predicted for Bolivia and Central, Northeast and Southeast
Brazil.
