 In NCEP POST two different algorithms are used for deriving sea-level
 pressure. They probably can be used for vertical interpolation below
 terrain as well. One is the constant lapse rate method, with a Shuwll
 correction.  Results can be very noisy over mountainous terrain in higher-
 resolution model runs.   The second is membrane method: Underground
 temperatures recomputed by relaxing using successive overrelaxation
 (Poisson equation).
 Hydrostatic integration of this smooth underground temperature field
 yields a much smoother SLP field.  See www.dtcenter.org/nems-
